Mel Gibson and Wife File for Divorce after 25 Years of Marriage

Best known for his action movies, Mel Gibson is passing through a difficult moment of his life, as his wife Robyn Moore has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

She is reported to have signed the papers on April 9, citing "irreconcilable differences". Robyn has requested spousal support and attorneys' fees and also joint custody of their son, Tom who turns 10 on Thuesday.

In turn, Gibson's rep tells US mag that:

"Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so."

TMZ has also learnt that "there is no prenuptial agreement" and while Mel's fortune was estimated at $900 million in 2006, his wife would get half of it as California law says.

Moore hired attorney Laura Wasser, the one who represented Britney Spears in her break-up with Kevin Federline. She really wants to divorce.

In the meantime, Gibson was spotted in Costa Rica with an unknown woman-face next to him. A close friend said that:

"Mel is on family vacation with his entire family and their friends, his sons are there with their girlfriends, his pregnant daughter is there - the whole family is there."

It seems that there is no sign of making-up. What is really surprising is that the couple have been officially separated since August 26, 2006, right after the actor was pulled over for a DUI in Malibu.

"They'll do this amicably. There's a lot of mutual respect and they've worked hard on their marriage and worked hard on their separation." a friend revealed.

"They'll handle the divorce in the same respectful way." he continued.   

In fact it all started when Mel Gibson was reported to have had an affair with a hot Russian singer, called Oksana Kolesnikova.

Although Mel denied the rumors and so did the hottie, this thing was the main reason for why his marriage got to an end.

A rep for the singer issued a statement saying that:

"Sorry to hear about Mel Gibson's divorce. Somehow Oksana is being linked to Mr. Gibson, but there are no emotional ties between the two that I am aware of. Oksana has in the past entertained Mr. Gibson with her piano music as he dined at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Yes, I definitely welcome the opportunity to set the record straight, our Oksana is not romantically involved with Mr. Gibson."

Affair or not, it is a fact that they are going to divorce and break the 25 year marriage.
